The Daily Noise (#025): Procession

A quick snippet of a demo I'm working on.

I happened to mention to some people that a half empty 3 litre milk container sounded alot like a Taiko drum.

OK, so this isn't a Taiko drum. I didn't need a Taiko drum. I needed a different type of Asian percussion.

Sue me.

Still Here

Just a quick note to say that I'm still here, but I'm taking a bit of a break and reassessing things. There will be more music soon, I'm sure, but also maybe a complete site redesign. Not sure yet. We'll see what happens.

Just a reminder: Bandcamp will soon start taking a 10-15% cut of all sales, which I'm fine with, as they provide a service I love, but if you want to grab some of my music before that kicks in head over to Bandcamp and checkout my music.

Thanks for listening.

The Daily Noise (#024): Funky Monkey

A little bit funky, not a lot of monkey, I'll grant you.

Still sick. Flu has decided to give me laryngitis as well. Fairly miserable around here at the mo'. Hallelujah for Wimbledon, World Cup and Ableton Live.

Also, thanks to Liz, who acted as assistant arranger on this one.

The Daily Noise (#023): Spanish Twilight

This is what we in the trade call "noodling".

At 3am.

Living the rock star life, baby. Oh yeah.

Not.

The Daily Noise (#022): Deeper

Ambient, much to my delight, is my default setting for making music. It's almost like meditation. I zone out and get lost in the making of it and the hours just drift by. There's nothing quite like it.

Steve Roach isn't the first name I'd reel off when discussing influences, but much to my surprise he's actually a huge influence on me. And in general too. These days when I think ambient, I'm thinking Roach. And as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.

The Daily Noise (#021): Don't Look Down

Been sick as hell for the last week and about all my head and ears could stand was some minimal electronic.

Upon re-listening, I like this enough that I'm pretty sure I'll end up extending and fiddling with it at some point. Probably.

The Daily Noise (#020): Mr Cooder Is Unavailable

This was supposed to be part of The Daily Noise: Volume 1 as a bonus track, but it ended up just a little too meandering and unfocussed for my liking. So I'm offering it up here as a Daily Noise instead. No, the irony doesn't escape me.

Also this is The Daily Noise #20 which is kind of a shock to me. I started this with the best of intentions but was fairly sure I wouldn't get far past #5. I'm delighted to be wrong. I'm also delighted at the amount of visitors I'm getting and at how many people are buying the music too. Thank you, I appreciate it more than you can imagine.

So I guess I'll keep going then, so long as you all keep listening. That seems like a pretty fair deal to me.

The Daily Noise: Volume 1

Or you can head directly over to Bandcamp.

The Daily Noise will, of course, continue, but now that this and Planet Drum are out I plan on taking a little downtime to refocus and work out the direction I want to push my music. I've already decided the way to go is multiple EPs per year, but because I'm easily bored I tend to be all over the map stylistically and I'd really prefer to bring everything more into line. That's the plan.

Or I'll just keep right on doing what I'm doing. Or something else entirely. It's hard to tell.

Enjoy the music.

The Daily Noise (#019): Lost In Ivory

This is why I should never be allowed near a piano.

Well, a piano that works at any rate.
